Locust in Your Mouth Trilogy - Premiere of New Butoh Work by OnenessButoh
Locust in Your Mouth Trilogy (Locust) is a Butoh production choreographed and performed by independent Butoh artist Judith Kajiwara along with her recently-formed ensemble, OnenessButoh.
The chilling story of Locust is set to a haunting electronic composition by Bay Area sound artist Sam Genovese. It is comprised of three dances: Dance 1: Beings of Light; Dance 2: Woman Warrior; and Dance 3: Ascension. Locust transports the audience back 40 years to the historical war in Vietnam. It is a crucial and timely work that, though may be considered controversial, opens the curious mind to catapult out of conditioned comfort into higher, evolutionary thought. Dance 1 is performed by the ensemble in a dream-like ethereal introduction of the Beings of Light--visitors of higher consciousness who are called forth; Woman Warrior (solo by Kajiwara) shares a tragic journey; and Ascension depicts the encounter between Woman Warrior and the Beings of Light.
We're pleased to announce our guest artist for the evening. Bay Area musician, Unity Nguyen, will be performing a traditional Vietnamese song to close the program.
Following the program, our guest moderator, Dr. Patrick Hayashi, will lead the audience conversation with the artists.
OnenessButoh proudly enters its 2nd season as a participant in the 18th Annual United States of Asian America Festival. A community-based collective of dancers, the mission of OnenessButoh is to garner awareness of the unique artistry of Butoh--an often misunderstood dance form--while striving to update and redefine Butoh as a humanistic, gripping voice relevant to today's challenging, rapidly shifting world.
