A Night In Paris
Be transported to the Parisian cabarets of the 1940s by renowned soprano Maria Jette's styling à la Edith Piaf. Her performance of standards from the French cabaret will be paired with works from the classical repertoire. Scott Lykins, Lakes Area Music Festival artistic director and cellist, will perform cello sonatas by French composers Claude Debussy and Francis Poulenc in collaboration with Philadelphia based pianist Gregory DeTurck.  St. Paul Chamber Orchestra violinist Kayla Moffett will be featured in the jazzy violin sonata by Maurice Ravel. Baritone John Taylor Ward will return from his residency in Paris to sing and emcee the event as we announce the 2015 summer series of the Lakes Area Music Festival. Don't miss this evening in the City of Lights on Saturday, April 4 at Sherwood Forest! Music will begin at 7pm, preceded by a cocktail hour with French-style hors d'ouevres beginning at 6pm.

Soprano Maria Jette is a familiar face to Twin Cities audiences, and a frequent guest of orchestras around the country and, notably, on the radio show A Prairie Home Companion. Scott Lykins serves as the artistic and executive director of the Lakes Area Music Festival; having received Bachelors and Masters degrees from the Eastman School of Music he now performs chamber music and with orchestras around the Midwest. Festival associate artistic director John Taylor Ward attended the Eastman School of Music and Yale University and is currently touring the world as a fellow with French baroque ensemble Les Arts Florissants. Violinist Kayla Moffett is in her first year with the St. Paul Chamber Orchestra after serving as a fellow with the New World Symphony in Miami and completing studies at Yale and the University of Southern California. Piano Gregory DeTurck is a frequent collaborator and soloist with the Lakes Area Music Festival. He attended the Eastman School of Music and Juilliard School and is an alum of the Academy, a program of Carnegie Hall, Juilliard, and the Weill Music Institute. He has performed and given master classes around the world and is on faculty at the University of Pennsylvania.

Founded in 2009, the Lakes Area Music Festival brings together more than 80 nationally known musicians for three weeks of classical music performance in the Brainerd Lakes Area, including chamber music, symphonic orchestra and semi-staged opera. The collaborative roster includes talent from ensembles and conservatories such as the Minnesota Orchestra, St. Paul Chamber Orchestra, New World Symphony, Metropolitan Opera, Minnesota Opera, Juilliard School, Eastman School of Music, Curtis Institute and more.
