If your idea of a drag show involves lip-synching, this is not that. This is a rollicking, sometimes careening out-of-control, balls-to-the-wall gender warrior cabaret led by Dito van Reigersberg, co-founder and co-artist director of Philadelphia's venerable Pig Iron Theatre Company. The cabaret has received standing ovations in New York, Austin, Washington D.C., Europe, Las Vegas and, of course, its hometown of Philadelphia, where Martha began performing a decade ago.
Martha Graham Cracker is, arguably, the world's tallest and hairiest drag queen. She is accompanied by her live band. The show stands uniquely at an intersection of live music, drag, theater and performance art. Martha performs new arrangements and mashups of songs by artists ranging from Prince, Led Zeppelin and Lady Gaga to Nina Simone, Whitney Houston and Dolly Parton -- and everything in between. No two shows are alike.
This very special all-ages performance at Louisville's Tim Faulkner Gallery will mark Martha's debut in Kentucky. It is being presented in conjunction with Actors Theatre of Louisville's Humana Festival of New American Plays, which is hosting the world premiere of Pig Iron Theatre Company's I Promised Myself to Live Faster (March 27th through April 12th), featuring van Reigersberg.
A full bar is available. Day of show tickets will be $10. Doors at 9pm. Show at 10pm.
Please note that the show is all ages, but pursuant to the venue's rules, anyone who is underage MUST buy an advance ticket. Tickets will not be sold at the door to anyone under the age of 21. The Martha Graham Cracker Cabaret is intended for mature audiences.
