TERRY OATES & THE MUDCATS Founded in 2009, Terry Oates and the Mudcats is a high energy show band from the Northern Virginia/ Washington DC area that perform all forms of music born out of the American blues. Genres ranging from Blues, Big Band, Swing, Rock, Motown, Funk, and Soul make up the sound and style of Terry Oates and the Mudcats! With influences from Muddy Waters and Howlin Wolf to BB King, Brian Setzer Orchestra, and Jeff Beck, their show has variety and proves entertaining to younger as well more mature audiences.
Since the release of their first self produced album, "Lonesome Highway" in 2011, they have been performing at festivals, theaters, charity fundraisers and special events as a head lining act and opening act for several national artists such as Tinsley Ellis, Devon Allman, Skyla Burrell, Pat Travers, and have had the extreme privilege to have had the legendary saxophonist Ron Holloway set in with them. They also had the rare opportunity to perform for the 87th Shenandoah Apple Blossom Festival as well as participate in the "Grand Feature Parade" which draws up to 250,000 attendees. In 2012 they partnered with the Stonewall Jackson Chapter 9 DAV to organize a benefit for the Disabled American Veterans and were awarded an "Outstanding Community Service Award".
September of 2014 brought the single and video release of "Yamomem", an original song based on New Orleans slang. Collaborating on the project with Ian Rushing of Toy Box Productions who shot the Super Bob video "Superfly" and Todd Stotler of Echoes Recording Studio who produced the "Blues Scars" album by Skyla Burrell which is currently receiving nationwide radio play and climbing the Billboard blues charts.
Known for their "specialty" type sets such as; all original music, big band, blues, Motown, New Orleans, or rock, they are looking forward to a "Beatles" tribute show in true "Mudcat" style April 11th 2015. They are currently performing as a full band and are capable of scaling their show down for acoustic shows that require a more intimate setting. New original material for a future album is on the horizon as well as preparations for a tour to promote their new single.
