Paddy Keenan
As Irish music critic John O'Regan observed, 'In Irish music there are legends and legends and then there's Paddy Keenan. Bursting on the Irish traditional music scene as the turbo engine propelling the groundbreaking group The Bothy Band, Keenan is now widely regarded as the most accomplished and exciting uilleann piper today; the King of the Pipers. Paddy's innovative, inspired and innovative playing in the wild and unfettered 'open' style, that his been handed down in his Travelling (Irish gypsies)family for generations, led his fellow Bothy Band member Donal Lunny to call Paddy, 'the Jimi Hendrix of the pipes.' A recipient of the prestigious 'Musician of the Year' award from TG4, the Irish language TV station, Paddy is equally adept on the low whistle, ripping out roisterous reels and also be sublimely soulful in slow airs. Joined in concert by acclaimed Irish guitarist and singer Padraic Conroy, hearing this traditional master will be a true treat not to be missed.
