Bemidji Symphony Orchestra presents "Presidents, Portraits and Paradigms"
Mount Rushmore is coming to you!
Appearing in the character of President Thomas Jefferson, humanities scholar Clay S. Jenkinson returns to the BSO stage to bring to life the four iconic figures carved into the Mount Rushmore National Memorial: George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Theodore Roosevelt and Abraham Lincoln.
Music on the program includes Franz Joseph Haydn's masterful Symphony No. 88 in G major and Corelli's Concerto Grosso, Op. 6 No. 8. Also on the program is Aaron Copland's moving tribute to Abraham Lincoln, "A Lincoln Portrait," and composer Chris Brubeck's "Roosevelt in Cowboy Land," a symphonic portrait of Theodore Roosevelt and his time in the badlands of North Dakota. Dr. Beverly Everett conducts.
Jenkinson's unique style of living history performance is thought provoking, humorous, and enlightening. A preeminent historical scholar, writer, and documentary film producer, Jenkinson has dedicated the better part of his life to researching the historical characters he portrays. He is the recipient of numerous awards and has also been honored for his work by Presidents George H. W. Bush and Bill Clinton.
The audience is invited to a post-concert conversation immediately following, during which Jenkinson and Dr. Everett will share insights and take audience questions. This activity is made possible, in part, by a grant from the Region 2 Arts Council, funded by an appropriation from the Minnesota State Legislature with money from the State's general fund.
