Four accomplished dancers come together on April 18 to put on a show that will honor the great Kuchipudi traditions of Guru Vempati Chinna Satyam.
This recital will feature group performances that fill the stage with color and movement, bringing stories of Indian myth and legend to life.
Kuchipudi is an ancient dance style that has been passed down through the generations for thousands of years. This South Indian dance style is renowned for it's vibrant movements, dynamic footwork, and dramatic facial expressions. Throughout his lifetime, Guru Vempati Chinna Satyam revolutionized the dance style, toured the globe, and brought Kuchipudi to new audiences. He established the Kuchipudi Art Academy in Chennai, India and created a vast repertoire of celebrated choreographed works. He was honored with numerous awards including the Padmabhushan and Kalaimamani.
This show features four of Guru Chinna Satyam's students who trained at the Kuchipudi Art Academy directly under his tutelage. Though American born and professionals in their own respective fields, they are committed to honoring their heritage by promoting both the Indian classical arts and the legacy of their Guru.
