Local Songwriter Showcase with Alice Howe, Joy Mills, Ben Mish, & Wes Weddell

Seattle Folklore Society presents a special evening featuring four local songwriters.
Boston-native ALICE HOWE cuts to the heart with her crystal-clear vocals and light, lyrical guitar, drawing inspiration from the likes of Joni Mitchell, Jackson Browne, and Gillian Welch. Rooted in classic emotive folk, with stories of love, loss, joy, and sorrow, Howe's songwriting is at once timeless and original. Recorded in Seattle, her 2014 EP "Tiger Lily" is a vivid, sure-footed collection of five new songs.

JOY MILLS has been writing and performing in Seattle for one and one-half decades, releasing six full-length albums and currently working on her next. Her soulful lyrics and melodic storytelling have brought her to national and international touring with her bands The Starlings and the Joy Mills Band. Mills continues to push the edges wider, honing an urban country-folk style set against the backdrop of the Pacific Northwest.

BEN MISH is the lead singer, piano player, and chief songwriter for the Seattle-based band Left Hand Smoke. He is fiercely devoted to the craft of songwriting, drawing praise from MTV Online and Billboard Magazine while placing songs on ER and Grey's Anatomy, to name a few. While the band is known for headlining Bumbershoot and opening for Eddie Vedder and Maroon5, solo performances reveal Mish's rootsier, folksier side.

WES WEDDELL is a singer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, teacher, and audio odd-jobber with an accomplished history of touring and also not-touring. He has several recordings, the occasional award, and runs a 501(c)(3) non-profit in Seattle dedicated to creating community live-music spaces and helping local musicians and audiences connect. His forthcoming CD features literature-inspired songs from his work with The Bushwick Book Club Seattle--an organization for which all four of this event's artists have performed.
