ANTHONY NEWMAN (click for Mr. Newman's bio) first performed with Berkshire Bach on piano with flutist Eugenia Zukerman in 2013. He was found to be simply irresistible. He comes back this time performing on organ to showcase his virtuosity as a Bach specialist and composer. Meanwhile, today's audiences of baroque music seem to appreciate the juxtaposition of organ with trumpets, even though this was not so common in that era. The Berkshire Bach Trumpet Triumvirate Ensemble boasts three trumpet virtuosi and a timpani virtuoso (all of whom are "Bach at New Year's" regulars), and they are pairing up with Mr. Newman for a brass and organ program that has been designed to delight.

ALLAN DEAN, Professor of Trumpet at the Yale School of Music, is a member of Summit Brass, the St. Louis Brass and the Yale Brass Trio. He performed with the New York Brass Quintet for eighteen years and the Contemporary Chamber Ensemble for ten years. Involved in Baroque and Renaissance music performed on original instruments, he is a founding member of the Calliope Renaissance Band, as well as the New York Cornet and Sacbut Ensemble. He teaches and performs each summer at the Mendez Brass Institute and the Norfolk Chamber Music Festival, and with Berkshire Bach for over 20 years. He can be heard playing both modern trumpet and early brass on over eighty recordings for major labels including RCA, Columbia, Nonesuch, Pro Arte, CRI, Musical Heritage, and Summit. He lives in Monterey, MA, with his artist wife, Julie Shapiro, and his daughter, Essy, a student at Susquehanna U.

BEN HARMS has enjoyed a diverse career performing with numerous period-instrument ensembles, including the Calliope Renaissance Band (winner of the Naumburg Chamber Music Award), Boston Camerata, the Rebel Baroque Ensemble, and the Boston Early Music Festival, as well as with mainstream orchestras such as the Metropolitan Opera (since 1968). He has performed professionally on recorder and viola da gamba, and has performed premières of works by prominent contemporary composers such as Olivier Messiaen, Steve Reich, Lou Harrison, Peter Schickele, and John Cage. He holds performance degrees from Cincinnati Conservatory of Music and Curtis Institute, has a musicology M.A. from the City University of New York, and has been an academic Fulbright scholar to Germany. He has published articles on the subject of historical percussion and manufactures historical percussion instruments in his workshop in New Marlborough, MA.

NEIL MUELLER has performed concerti with the Boston Pops, the Eastern Connecticut Symphony, and Fargo-Moorhead Symphony Orchestras, the Berkshire Bach Ensemble and Cleveland's BlueWater Chamber Orchestra. As a freelance musician, he has performed with groups such as the Burning River Brass, the Bronx Arts Ensemble, the New Haven Symphony Orchestra and Marlboro Festival Orchestra. Mueller is Assistant Professor of Trumpet at Central Michigan University and previously taught at North Dakota State University, Case Western Reserve, the University of New Hampshire and Boston University's Tanglewood Institute. He has authored three duet books based on solo trumpet literature, published by Balquhidder Music and has just released a recording of new music for trumpet, piano and two trumpets (featuring Allan Dean) entitled "Call and Response".

GERALD SERFASS is active as a free-lance trumpeter in New York, Pennsylvania, and throughout New England. He is currently a member of Springfield (MA) and Allentown Symphony Orchestras. He especially enjoys the challenges of the piccolo trumpet and stays active performing with the Bach Choir of Bethlehem and Berkshire Bach Society. He considers himself fortunate to have been contacted by Kenneth Cooper as a short-notice replacement to play Bach's Second Brandenburg Concerto on New Year's Eve, 1994, and he has been called back ever since. He earned his Bachelor's Degree from West Chester (PA) University and his Master's in Music Performance from New England Conservatory.
