Cosas de Mujueres "Things of Women"
Using the unique landscape of the Leonard Pearlstein Gallery at Drexel University, this Flamenco installation dance piece explores contemporary questions of "Cosas de Mujeres" (Women's things)." This work utilizes distinctive feminine objects that are widely used in the Flamenco language such as a "manton" (shawl), "abanico" (fan), and "bata de cola" (long train) as objects of exploration that evolve into duets. What significance do these "things" hold for contemporary women? Is there room for such femininity at this time? How are we strengthened by our femininity? How does the world see us when we embrace that part of ourselves? Continuing this conversation in collaboration with modern dance artist KC Chun-Manning of Flesh Blood, Pasion y Arte's Artistic Director Elba Hevia y Vaca, challenges the audience and artists involved to look beyond the surface and explore what's inside.
