Live Music Belly Dance Workshops with Rosa Noreen & Jonatan Derbaq in Boston
WORKSHOP #1 12:00-1:30 PM - Rhythm & Pause
Don't be bullied by the beat! Learn to navigate popular belly dance rhythms without feeling overwhelmed. We'll strip the rhythms down to their basic beats, then build movement patterns to help you find the space between the beats. Drawing on Rosa's signature Delicious Pauses concepts and methodology, we'll learn to be guided by the rhythm and resist the temptation to hit every single beat.
In this workshop, we'll use both combinations and improv exercises to help dancers gain confidence in creating dynamic movement patterns on the spot. Useful for both live music and recorded music performances. Also a great tool for getting past a choreography block! This workshop is a good fit for belly dance students and teachers alike.
WORKSHOP #2 2:00-3:30 PM - Dancer-Drummer Communication
An essential workshop for Dancers AND Drummers!
Discover the secrets to unlocking the stellar performance dynamics used by all the pros. Dancers, work with ANY drummer; drummers, work with ANY dancer right there on the spot And that's just the beginning! We will cover intros and endings and everything in-between. Our exercises focus on fool-proof designs to make your improvisations more natural and fluid while appearing to the audience as a series of tight, solid and even pre-orchestrated routines.
Appropriate for dancers and drummers with an understanding of basic techniques. People of all genders are welcome. Drummers should bring their own tabla/doumbek.
Sign up today! Early bird rates expire Sun 2/22.
