Roddy Byers, better known as "Roddy Radiation" was the lead guitarist of The Specials, the innovative British band who pioneered the ska revivial craze of the late 1970s by combining the danceable ska and rocksteady beat with punk's energy and attitude.

Byers is on his first solo tour of the eastern United States and will be backed by The Scotch Bonnets, playing the songs he penned for The Specials, as well as songs from his solo projects and choice covers! Plus a fun ska-tastic set by The Scotch Bonnets!

RODDY RADIATION
Byers joined The Specials when the band was called The Coventry Automatics and wrote several songs for the band. The most successful was "Rat Race", which peaked at number five in the UK Singles Chartin May 1980. Byers also wrote "Hey Little Rich Girl", which appeared on The Specials second album, More Specials (1980). "Hey Little Rich Girl" was released as a single in Japan by Chrysalis in 1980, and covered by Amy Winehouse on her successful album Back To Black. Byers sang the lead vocal on "Concrete Jungle" and the track "Bragging and Trying Not to Lie" which was released as a free single with initial copies of More Specials. "Bragging and Trying Not to Lie" was credited as Roddy Radiation & The Specials.

Byers was an essential part of 'The Specials 2, who formed in the early 1990s after teaming up with Desmond Dekker for the King of Kings album. The group toured for a couple of years throughout the UK, America and Japan. They released two singles "Hypocrite" and a cover of Toots & the Maytals"Pressure Drop". The band recorded two albums 1996 Today's Specials, a compilation of covers and 1998 Guilty 'til Proved Innocent! which were made up of original material. Byers contributed songs for latter's "Tears in My Beer," "Bonediggin'," "Keep on Learning" and "The Man With No Name".

After The Specials 2, Byers worked with the acoustic project, Three Men & Black, which consisted of Jean Jacques Burnel (The Stranglers), Jake Burns (Stiff Little Fingers), Pauline Black (The Selecter), Bruce Foxton (The Jam) and Dave Wakeling (The Beat, General Public) and Nick Welsh (Skaville UK).

Byers' current band, The Skabilly Rebels, are based in Coventry. They are Byers (lead guitar and vocals), Sam Smith (The Bonediggers) on rhythm guitar, Paul Ayriss (The Tone/Ex-Cathedra/The Spitters) on drums, Mac (Travis Cut /The Pharaohs) on bass, Jay Jones (Lee Perry) on keyboards and Drew Stansall (Laurel Aitken/Prince Buster/Rico Rodriguez) on saxophone. They released their debut album 'Blues Attack' at the end of 2009 and toured the United States in 2012.

THE SCOTCH BONNETS
When you say the words 'scotch bonnets,' hot sauce aficionados think of the wrinkly peppers that are a staple of Caribbean cooking. But to reggae music fans, The Scotch Bonnets are the Baltimore/DC outfit who always bring the good-love vibe with their funky reggae, rocksteady, and soul-flavored sound. Though the current line-up boasts members of Scream and Left Alone, the band is the baby of singer/guitarist Kristin Forbes, upon whom the local reggae cats bestowed the nom de guerre Lady Hatchet because of her razor-sharp guitar chops.

Since their debut in December 2009, The Bonnets have been gigging regularly throughout the region. The have opened for The English Beat, The Pietasters, The Slackers, King Django, The Toasters, Bad Manners, and many others.

In April 2013, The Bonnets released their much-anticipated debut album, Live Ya Life, a  collection of Lady Hatchet's upbeat tunes about tough times, unrequited love, and the fighting spirit to get through it all.

On December 2, 2014, The Scotch Bonnets released Quest, an EP they recorded with their friend HR, singer of the legendary hardcore band Bad Brains. The group travelled the East Coast and out to the Midwest with HR, opening for him as well as backing him on songs from his Human Rights band.

The Scotch Bonnets will also have a track on Hellcat Records' upcoming tribute record to Rancid, Hooligans United.
