On Monday July 13, 2015, the Norman Maclean Festival will host a nature and environmental writing workshop with Phil Condon, an award-winning author of four books and dozens of stories and essays. He is a Professor and Director of the University of Montana Environmental Studies Program.
At the beautiful Double Arrow Ranch in Seeley Lake MT, Phil and six writers will discuss the essay or story drafts they each have submitted for the workshop and previously read, with the goal of encouragement and constructive revision advice and suggestion. Each writer will also meet individually with Phil to discuss their writing projects, goals, ideas, and careers, and everyone will generate some new writing ideas and drafts during the day.
River Writers will run 9am to 4pm with morning and afternoon breaks and lunch. Work considered can be non-fiction or fiction, essay or story, complete or excerpted from longer projects (chapters, etc.), between roughly 1,000-3,000 words (format: double-spaced, 1" margins). Send a resume and work by June 1, 2015 to Phil.Condon@mso.umt.edu.
Selection will be based on Phil's judgment of the manuscript quality and potential, about his ability to be helpful with the work, and on the best possible mix of participants for the workshop. All applicants will be notified by June 1, and copies of all the writing workshop manuscripts will be sent upon receipt of workshop registration payment of $200, no later than June 15.
Lodging can be booked at the Double Arrow Resort, doublearrowresort.com, (406) 677-2777 or other lodging listed on the Maclean Footsteps website.
