Guided tour of the site of the tragic 1949 Mann Gulch Fire documented in Maclean's Young Men and Fire. Located on the Missouri River in the Gates of the Mountains north of Helena, this tour includes a strenuous four-mile hike into Mann Gulch as well as boat transportation up the Missouri River to the head of Mann Gulch.
This is is a 6-7 hour tour for the fit and hardy. No shuttle provided. Meet at 9 am at the Gates of the Mountains Marina at the south end of Holter Lake, just 20 miles north of Helena off Interstate 15 at Exit 209 (Gates of the Mountains), a 2+ hour drive from Seeley Lake.
