IU Feminist Student Association is excited to be hosting the Vagina Monologues again this year on Valentine's Day weekend!
The Vagina Monologues is a benefit performance written by Eve Ensler, who was inspired by her interviews with over 200 women about female sexuality, relationships, body image, and more. The performance piece is composed of several monologues all dealing with issues of female sexuality and empowerment. These monologues range from topics of body hair to short skirts and from emotions of anger and sadness to laughter.
This year, the recently added monologue, "They Beat the Girl Out of My Boy," will be performed for the first time. This monologue was written from a trans-woman narrative. With the recent tragedies within the trans community, IU Feminist Student Association and the cast of the Vagina Monologues believes that it is very important to include their voices in this performance.
All of our proceeds will go to charity. In addition to ticket sales, we will also be selling Vagina Monologues t-shirts and chocolate vulva pops, made by FoodWorks, a catering business owned and operated by Middle Way House.
90% of our proceeds will go to a local charity of our choice, and 10% will go to the V-Day campaign, a global activist movement dedicated to stop violence against women and girls. We have chosen Middle Way House as our local charity, which is the domestic abuse shelter for women for Monroe County.
The following are the dates, times, and ticket prices for this event: Friday, February 13th - 7PM Saturday, February 14th - 7PM Sunday, February 15th - 1PM Students w/ ID - $8* Without ID - $10*
We also will have tabling from various organizations on campus, so stop by early to see their materials.
*We would never want to exclude someone from being able to watch this performance due to an inability to pay. If you are unable to pay the full ticket prices, just let us know, and we will figure something out.
