Diderot String Quartet
DSQ, a fresh string quartet on historical instruments, continues its residency at Holy Trinity for an unusual exploration of the fugue and the Bach legacy. J.S. Bach made it one of the final big projects of his life to set down the ultimate 'fugue manifesto' in The Art of the Fugue. Meanwhile, a few generations later in Leipzig, Felix Mendelssohn, a great admirer of Bach's music, continued the tradition in his own idiom, writing fugues of his own and including fugal writing in large-scale works such as his beautiful string quartet in A minor.
