Legislative Education & Advocacy Day (LEAD)
Mental Health America of Colorado (MHAC) invites you to the 22nd Annual Legislative Education & Advocacy Day (LEAD) on Friday, March 6. The event will begin at 8:00am at the McNichols Building (144 West Colfax Ave., Denver, CO 80202) and will end by 1:00pm.
LEAD brings together a wide range of advocates interested in both mental health issues and contributing to positive public policy changes. At LEAD, we provide education, information and tools that each attendee can use to improve lives and broker change regarding the prevention and treatment of mental illness. The LEAD lunch program includes a main speaker and recognition for outstanding leadership to state legislators, community groups and persons in recovery.
The theme for LEAD 2015 is "Civilizing the Conversation - Mental Health in the Media."
Keynote Panel of Reporters: LEAD 2015's keynote panel will explore the process of reporting about mental health as a starting point for a broader discussion. Our panelists are three local journalists who have written in-depth pieces about personal and family struggles, fractured systems of care and public policy in Colorado.

Kristin Jones, Rocky Mountain PBS "Untreated," a series of reports by Kristin, examined the intersections of mental health and diverse areas of public policy.
Natasha Gardner, 5280 Magazine Natasha's story illuminated the difficulties so many individuals and family members face through personal narratives in her article "Riders on the Storm."
Morning Program & Presentations: Michael Lott-Manier, Assistant Director of Public Policy at Mental Health America of Colorado, will address the role of public attitudes, assumptions, and language in mental and behavioral health policy.
