Steps Beyond presents the Steps Repertory Ensemble Season 2015
The Steps Repertory Ensemble
the resident contemporary dance company of Steps on Broadway and, under the Artistic Direction of Bradley Shelver, commissions internationally acclaimed choreographers, both established and emerging, to create new works and to re-stage repertory for the company. The Ensemble performs both nationally and internationally including the Baruch Performing Arts Center, Kumble Theater For the Performing Arts, Jacob's Pillow Dance Festival and The Dumbo Dance Festival, to name a few. Their annual season, Celebrate Dance is presented each year at The Ailey CitiGroup Theater in New York City and presents an eclectic repertory of critically acclaimed works. The company is comprised of dancers that hail from all over the globe bringing a rich diversity into the works and bridging the cultural gaps between audiences and younger dance students through their lecture demonstrations and master classes.

The Legend of Ten (2010) by Mr. Lar Lubovich. A work for ten dancers,The Legend of Ten maps the complex, shifting terrain of Brahms's Quintet for Piano and Strings in F Minor, Opus 34 (first and fourth movements)
Recur (2013) by Mr Jae Man Joo has Music by; Nils Frahm, Max Richter and Valentine Silverstrov. Origionally created for Complexions Contemporary Ballet. "Life is about things that happen to us that are only important when we look back at them. If they stay with us they become part of us. If not they are cast off."
SandScript (2015) by REVERBdance Festival commission winner,Mr. Mike Esperanza is a world premier with music by "Die Luftseilbahn" & "Bird Watching" by Biosphere
Le Monde Est Fini, Pas De Panique,(2015) a world premier by Ensemble Artistic Director, Bradley Shelver, with music by Mozart, Steven Reich, Tom Waits, Boban I Marko and Ana Tijoux. Translated as, "The world is Finished, Do Not Panic", the work recognizes the influence and power of mass hysteria and panic in the modern world. The work comments on the era of suspicion, mass media, war, the death of romance and the disconnection of mankind from each other, but the increased connection we share through social networking.
She and Him, Him and Her, He and I, Us and Them (2014) Another work by Artistic Director, Bradley Shelver, with music by Bach, Scarlatti, Chopin and Beethoven. Originally performed in an excerpted form for the Inaugural Brooklyn Dance Festival in 2012. The work is divided into four duets, exploring the emotional, physical, spiritual and hopefully the eternal bond in relationships.
Apex (2002) by choreographer,Ms. Francesca Harper, premiered in 2002 as part of the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater's 44th annual season at New York's, City Center Theater. , "In the opaque world that is Apex, the dark- ness only reveals fragments of one's pure self. Time cycles and habits repeat until a conscious choice is made to find the missing pieces.
3114 BCE (2010) choreographed by, Bradley Shelver with music by Ravel, premiered at the REVERBdance Festival in NYC in 2010. 3114 BCE is the start of the 5000 year Mayan Calendar that was rumored to be the apocalypse of December 21, 2012. It is a commentary on the lack of human evolution, the idea that deep down, we have remained the caveman, craving nothing but food, sex and self-preservation.
