Ellis Paul is one of the leading voices in American songwriting. He was a key figure and leader in the wave of talented singer/songwriters that emerged from the Boston folk scene, creating a movement that revitalized the national acoustic circuit with an urban, literate, folk/pop style that helped renew interest in the genre in the 1990's. His charismatic and authentic performance style has influenced a generation of artists, moving them away from the artifice of pop and closer towards the realness of folk. Ellis's songs bridge the gap between the modern folk sound and the populist traditions of Woody Guthrie and Pete Seeger.

This gifted songwriter knows how to tell his own story while simultaneously encapsulating the essence of the people and places that define his era. A singular storyteller, Ellis's words reflect personal experiences yet also express feelings, thoughts, and sensibilities that many different people can relate to, regardless of age or upbringing. The exhilaration of the open road. Celebrating heroes. The hope for redemption. These are just some of the  themes found in his new album, "Chasing Beauty," a set of songs which detail, in typical Ellis Paul fashion, stories of people and places that reflect larger truths about us all.

Ellis has recorded nineteen albums, received numerous critical kudos and awards (including 15 Boston Music Awards), and toured for over 20 years. He has played the Newport Folk Festival, Carnegie Hall, and countless venues large and small from Alaska to Miami to Paris and London. "Despite his success and sense of history, Mr. Paul remains an artist with his eye on the future and an interest in discovering the transformative potential of his music."  - The New York Times
