FROM THE EARTHWORM TO THE NIGHT
About the show:
Utilizing animations and shadow projections Jess X Chen will perform poetry and read from her first manuscript of poetry, From The Earthworm To The Night.  Using poetry, paper cut outs, and shadows, From the Earth Worm To The Night  intimately extricates Asian-American narratives of colonial trauma, sexuality, ecological collapse and diaspora.  Through poetry and shadows, the evenings' narrative will focus on the stuttering voice of the diasporic daughter-poet, and then turn an ear to the silenced voices of Tiananmen Square protesters, the honeybees suffering from colony collapse disorder, and the ghost town speaking back to the civilians who left it behind.  A constellation of violence will be connected from the female body to the landscape of the colonized Earth.  How can we embark on the impossible task of healing from these geological scars?  How can we look violence in the eye, speak truth to power, and then embrace the comfort of the stardust we will one day become?
