Food For All, a Project of OCCAC
Food For All is a project of Okanogan County Community Action Council (OCCAC). We partner with our community of farmers, orchardists, and backyard gardeners to bring fresh produce to the food banks of Okanogan County. We do this through both the practice of gleaning (collecting produce that is leftover or not up to commercial standards) from fields and orchards, and through our gardening programs. We grow our own food in the Food For All Garden, build Square Foot Gardens for families, and organize Giving Gardens. If you are interested in volunteering for any of these activities, contact the Food For All Coordinator for more information! Square Foot Gardens
Food For All promotes food security within our community by offering educational gardening opportunities to low-income families. Our Square Foot Garden program partners with families to establish gardens at their homes. Together, we build a 4' by 8' raised bed, fill it with a mixture of peat moss, compost, and vermiculite, and plant seeds and starts according to the Square Foot Garden method! Volunteer Garden Mentors partner with our families, and the result is thriving Square Foot Gardens, increased access to fresh nutritious produce, and new gardeners!
How You Can Help!
Volunteer
All of our programs rely on the enthusiasm and commitment of our volunteers. We invite you to come out to our Garden Work Parties or volunteer to be a Garden Mentor for our Square Foot Garden program. Sponsor a Square Foot Garden
The Square Foot Gardening method is a fun and easy way to grow food. For $177, we can build a garden and teach a family to grow their own food!
Plant a Giving Garden
No matter the size, a Giving Garden is a great way to charitably contribute fresh produce to your local food bank! Just plant a little extra in your garden, or partner with us to create something larger, and we'll harvest it for you.
Monetary Donations
Cash and check charitable contributions help to keep our food programs sustainable and provide proof to larger grantors that our community supports these programs.
