Cabaret for Valentine's Day: I Love New York
I love New York! This year's Valentine's Cabaret will be a love song to the city of my birth, my fantasies, and my dreams. Hope you can bring someone special and enjoy an evening of songs new and familiar, by composers old and contemporary, each illuminating some notable aspect of the Big Apple, from the skin to the core. With music director/pianist Glenn Mehrbach, and bassist Robbie Link. So come on down to The Regulator Bookshop (720 Ninth Street, Durham, NC, 919-286-2700) on "lucky" Friday, February 13th, 7PM, for your evening in New York, without I-95 traffic or TSA hassles--although you can take your shoes off if that makes you happy. Stay afterward for a meet & greet with the artists!
This event sold out last year so get your tickets early! Tickets are $15.00, and will be available after January 12th at The Regulator, or via brownpapertickets.com.
Artist Bios:
ELLEN CIOMPI has been singing all her life, and creating and presenting cabaret performances with her pianist/musical director Glenn Mehrbach since 2005. Her diverse programs explore the traditional cabaret literature of the Great American Song Book and Broadway & Hollywood musicals, even as she expands the genre to also embrace songwriters as diverse as Paul Simon, Tom Waits, The Beatles, and Lady Gaga. As an alumna of the prestigious Cabaret Conference at Yale University, she has worked with many greats in the field, including Andrea Marcovicci, Marilyn Maye, Amanda McBroom, and Laurel Massé. Steve Ross (NYC's "Crown Prince of Cabaret") has said about her,
"Ellen is an extraordinarily talented cabaret singer who deserves to have a wider audience. She has a remarkable knowledge of the repertoire, passion for her work, and a terrific collaborator in her pianist, Glenn Mehrbach. Go hear her sing!"
