Send Off Party for Dr. Ellie Graham
Dr. Ellie Graham is returning to Liberia to help in the fight against Ebola, to re-open hospitals and continue her work with re-establishing medical training in the area.
Dr. Graham is a children's doctor with 45 years of experience caring for poor families in the United States and developing countries. She was on the faculty at the University of Washington where she worked at Harborview Medical Center and focused on cross-cultural aspects of health care.
Since retiring from UW in 2008, she has worked and taught in Liberia as a faculty member with the Academic Collaborative to Support Medical Education in Liberia. This group works to establish and support pediatric training in that post conflict country in West Africa. This task has become even more complicated with the Ebola virus outbreak that has devastated the health care system and the people of Liberia and neighboring countries of West Africa.
Because of her concern about the negative impact of global poverty on nearly half of the children on the globe, she also volunteers with RESULTS (www.results.org) an effective network of grassroots volunteers that, through their advocacy, work to build the public and political will to end extreme global poverty.
