FoodLab Detroit presents: Bringing Equity and Inclusion to the table (featuring Dr. Shakti Butler)
FoodLab is a diverse community of food businesses and allies committed to developing and maintaining an equitable, healthy and sustainable food economy that is accountable to all Detroiters. As small business owners in a struggling city, we are often looked to as job-providers, community anchors, and rejuvenators of creativity and spirit.
As FoodLab members, we are asking ourselves how we can use our unique position to work toward a future that is positive, inclusive, and accessible to all Detroiters. How do we work together to promote prosperity for all, no matter where we are from or how long we have been here? We're in the process of creating a new economy in Detroit. What an incredible opportunity to start thinking of ways we can use our unique position to work toward a future that is positive, inclusive, and accessible to all Detroiters?
FoodLab recognizes the importance of addressing racial equity in our businesses and see opportunity for greater impact by working together. The goals of this workshop are to: 1) Create and sustain positive dialogue 2) Shift the conversation from racial diversity to racial equity 3) Share local and national racial equity best practices 4) Gain a practical framework for deconstructing systemic racial inequalities 5) Make a commitment to racial equity and to making a real difference in our community 6) Create cross-sector strategies for racial equity 7) Deepen our understanding of what "inclusion" means in the FoodLab culture 8) Foster post-convening collaboration
