"And from the day on which you bring the sheaf of elevation offeringyou shall count off seven weeks" Leviticus 23:15
The time between Passover (the liberation) and Shavuot (the revelation and acceptance of the covenant), the symbolic journey from Mitzrayim to Sinai, comprises a special spiritual opportunity to explore our connections to freedom and commitment: What am I doing? Where am I going? and How do I best serve my intentions and purposes?
We'll begin at the beginning of the spring month of Nisan, preparing for Pesach by counting and contemplating the twelve/thirteen tribes and their offerings to the mishkan. We'll then move through the seven weeks, exploring the biblical omer and looking at how this agriculturally-rooted observance has evolved as Jewish communities became urbanized and eventually scattered throughout the world.
We'll incorporate the seven sefirot of the kabbalists as well as other counting practices and create a journal of our trip through ancient Jewish time. We'll also map a contemplative walk on the WJC land.
