Winter Greens Workshop Series: Producing Greens for a Winter CSA
This workshop, the third in the Winter Greens Growing Series, will take us to Southeastern, Mass to learn from Chuck Currie of Freedom Food Farm.; The workshop will include discussions on marketing of winter CSA, low-till winter management, timing of crop rotations between successive harvest seasons, managing crop residue, timing of irrigation and mulching for adequate moisture for seeding/transplanting, and the use of row covers.Freedom Food Farm's mission is to provide healthy, nutritious food to members of local communities throughout the socioeconomic spectrum. Their food is grown using organic and biodynamic principles, striving to model natural ecological cycles. This translates to healthy food for the whole community! This is one in a series of workshops on winter greens production. To view additional offerings, click here.About the presenter:
Presenter: Chuck Currie. Chuck studied biochemistry and chemistry for two years at UMass Amherst before taking a sustainable agriculture course, visiting a small farm run by someone not much older than him, and instantly realizing he had wanted to be a farmer his entire life. After completing a B.S. in Plant, Soil, and Insect Science in 2005, he worked at Red Fire Farm in Granby, MA for three years before starting his own farm in Vermont. After four years farming in Vermont, Chuck moved back to Southeastern Massachusetts with the goal of providing equal access to good food in more urban communities, and to be closer to family and friends. He started Freedom Food Farm in 2012 on leased land in Johnston, RI and began leasing the farm in Raynham, MA in 2014. Refund policy:
