(Un)Made: Solo Relay Series
NOTE: TICKETS STILL AVAILABLE AT THE DOOR for FRIDAY AUGUST 7th. With LINDA AUSTIN AND DREAM TEAM Claire Barrera, Danielle Ross, Noelle Stiles and Takahiro Yamamoto.
A new multi-layered solo by LINDA AUSTIN is remembered/mis-remembered by eight other dancers performing their own perfectly imperfect versions in a pass-along relay---the first stage of Austin's long term project (UN)MADE, a vehicle for the making, unmaking, transforming, transmitting, and distilling of performance and the performative self.
At once experiential inquiry and staged performance, (UN)MADE unfolds over the next 2-3 years in three stages: a pass-along solo for 8-10 performers; a group score for up to 40 trained or untrained performers that can be learned, adapted, practiced, and performed over the course of a week; and, finally, a fully-designed and staged dance that draws on material and methods generated over the previous 2 versions.
Sound: JOHN BERENDZEN || Visuals: MORGAN RITTER || Lights: JEFF FORBES

BIO Linda Austin both delights in and is provoked by how her own dance practices and obsessions can seem to contradict each other. She has been creating and performing dance and performance, often with a strong visual element and a commitment to original music, for more than three decades, while fostering the creation of her own and many others' work through Performance Works NorthWest for the past 15 years. Her work exploits and explores the body's powers and limits, bringing each performer's vulnerabilities and strengths, accidental awkwardness and elegance into a web of relationshipsintimate, playful, confrontationalwith other bodies, objects, environment, sound and media. The resultant improvisational and/or highly choreographed works are non-linear, poetic, often laced with humor, deploying movement that often disrupts what is generally considered "dancerly." Her most recent projects were Hummingbird, which premiered in June 2014 at On The Boards' NW New Works in Seattle and The Word Hand, a performative drawing project in collaboration with visual artists Pat Boas & Linda Hutchins. Among honors received have been Fellowships from the New York Foundation for the Arts, the Oregon Arts Commission, and most recently, a cash award of $20,000 as a Regional Arts & Culture Council Fellow in the Performing Arts.
