Ronnie Mack's Salute to the Music of America's Legends
Ronnie Mack, Host and Producer of the popular long running Roots Music showcase RONNIE MACK'S BARN DANCE for 25 years (January 1988 - January 2013), is starting a new series of monthly shows on the first Saturday of each month beginning on January 3, 2015, at Viva Cantina in Burbank. Viva Cantina also serves good food and has two bars. And there is no age limit, so you can bring the kids to the shows. Each month's show will salute the music of a particular American Music Legend from all musical genres. Each show will feature about 10 to 12 singers or bands performing the songs of the artist or band being honored. Over the course of time the songs of artists ranging from Frank Sinatra, Ella Fitzgerald, Hank Williams, Tina Turner, Patsy Cline, Bruce Springsteen, Johnny Cash, The Beach Boys, Ray Charles, Dolly Parton, Roy Orbison, Chuck Berry, Michael Jackson, Etta James, the Everly Brothers, the Platters, Merle Haggard, Connie Francis and many more will be saluted. Ronnie is also planning to have video footage running on a screen of the artist being saluted.
The first show on Saturday, January 3rd, will honor Ronnie's longtime friend of 30 years, "The King of the Rhythm and Blues Honkin' Sax," Big Jay McNeely. Big Jay is 87 now and still performing. He will be performing on this show. We need to show our appreciation to legends and pioneers of artists like Big Jay while we still have them with us.
There will be a cover charge for all of these shows which may vary from show to show. All of the acts need to be paid and naturally the bigger name acts need to be paid even more, therefore a cover charge. There will also be a great house band for each show to back up the artists who don't bring their own musicians.
The schedule for the first several months is shaping up like this: January 3rd - Salute to the music of Big Jay McNeely. Other performers will include: Billy Vera (#1 hit "At This Moment" and 2013 Grammy Award winner), Pete Anderson (Grammy award winning guitarist, singer and record producer), Candye Kane, King Cotton, Lil' Mo and the Dynaflos (a great doo-wop group), and special guest blues guitarist and singer Guitar Shorty. Also, guest host Ann the Raven from KCSN-FM's Sunday night blues program. Start time 7:30 p.m. Cover $15 at the door. No dance floor. Concert seating only.
