Sneaking Up: The Evolution of Stealth Aircraft -- Bruce Wright
Bruce Wright, who spent over 50 years in the Aerospace Industry, 34 with the Skunk Works (the official alias for Lockheed Martin's Advanced Development Programs/Projects) will trace the evolution of stealth aircraft from 1964 to the present, and explore future stealth possibilities, using the Lockheed Martin fighter group of F-117, F-22, and F-35, and the Northrup Grumman B-2 bomber, as illustrative examples .
There are only eight acknowledged production stealth aircraft in the world, all of them designed and manufactured in the United States. The theory of stealth was established by a Russian physicist; however, Russia has not been able to apply the theory to actual stealth aircraft design. Mr. Wright will explain why the U.S. and not the Russians have been successful in this arena.
During the time he participated in the design and development of 31 aircraft and spacecraft, Bruce Wright led the development teams in 19 of those. He is the "father" of the F-22 Raptor, USA's front line stealth fighter. He has taught aircraft design and history of air and space at Cal Poly since 2008.
This course will be held on Tuesday, Jan. 6, 2015, from 1 to 3:30 p.m. at the SLO Adult School, room H1. This room is at the bottom of a long flight of stairs with no access for handicapped persons or others who might have a problem navigating stairs.
