Curious Palate Spirit Tasting Class: Rum!
Rum lovers around the world owe a great debt to a simple plant: sugar cane. Hundreds of years ago, there was a sugar craze in Europe, thus colonies were established in the Caribbean to make the sweet treat. Soon, there was a surplus of sugar production byproductnamely, molasses. At first, there wasn't much use for the thick, sticky substance until it was discovered that sweet goo could be fermented and then distilled and then the alcohol quickly became popular...specially with pirates, sailors and America's founders and citizens! In this tasting class, we'll sample different rum styles and learn a little about it's delightful and delicious, and a little bit naughty, creation and history.
