Sonus Boreal, Snohomish County's premier women's choir, was founded in 2010 by former high school students of Mr. Stuart Hunt. His passion left a legacy and enthusiasm for music in each of our founding members' lives and proves involvement in music doesn't end with high school graduation.

Now in his 44th year of music education in Washington State, Stuart Hunt's musical degrees are from Lower Columbia College and the University of Washington - studying under Prof. Rodney Eichenberger. He was the Director of Choral activities in Quincy, Washington for 19 years; Choral Conductor at Marysville-Pilchuck High School for 12 years and concurrently Associate Conductor of the Seattle Girl's Choir from 1990-2003. Choirs under his direction have performed 19 regional concert tours, 7 of the U.S. West and East Coasts, and two 5-Nation concert tours of Europe - with both second and third prizes in the Youth and International Festival. In 2000, Seattle Girl's Choir Cantamus under his direction placed 2nd in the International Kathaumixw, the highest place of any choir in North America, with the participation of 42 choirs from 25 nations.
For 2 years he was a staff arranger for Warner Bros. Music, arranging the Supersound series for string orchestra. His choral compositions are published by Hinshaw Music and his sight reading textbook, 4-Minute Mastery, was released in 2014, published by his company, Northern Sound Press. He is also the Curriculum Coordinator for Education Innovations, Inc., a Bellevue, WA on-line course firm.
In 2002 Mr. Hunt formed the Northern Sound Choirs and added Sonus Boreal, the Snohomish County's Women's Choir in 2010. Since their inception they have sung for state music educator conventions, festivals, concert tours, and concerts throughout the Pacific Northwest region.
Mr. Hunt is active as an adjudicator, clinician, conductor, and arts advocate.
Laureen Breon
Piano Accompanist
Laurie teaches general music in the Arlington School District and has been at Kent Prairie Elementary since 2000. In addition to a full class schedule, she directs Choir on Fire, an honor choir of around 80 fourth and fifth graders. Ms. Breon holds both a Bachelor of Music degree in Piano Performance and Master of Arts in Music from Washington State University where she studied with renowned pianist, Dr. Istvan Nadas.
Ms. Breon taught piano and music theory courses at Washington State University, Blue Mountain Community College in Pendleton, Oregon, and Edmonds Community College. After receiving her teaching credential at Western Washington University, Laurie taught in the Marysville and Mount Vernon school districts before joining Arlington School District. Laurie also plays the organ and piano and directs the choir at Our Saviour's Lutheran Church in Arlington. She teaches private piano lessons and has served as a lecturer and independent conductor. She has two married sons and a daughter and loves spending time with them and the rest of her extended family. She enjoys watching the Cougs, the Mariners, and Seahawks while she works on her cross-stitch and crewel projects.
She is currently in her third season as the accompanist for Sonus Boreal.
