Merrimans' Playhouse Jazz Performance Series presents Ashley Daneman Band
About Beauty Indestructible:  Backed by a successful Kickstarter campaign, fans are calling Ashley Daneman's Beauty Indestructible album an "inspired masterpiece," "a rich banquet for the soul," saying it owns "intriguing melodies, haunting lyrics, and hip instrumentation," and that "it hits a nerve."  Ashley is a singer-songwriter who creates soulful audio landscapes at the intersection of jazz and modern folk music. Her inventive, dreamy songs drip with rich harmonies aptly described as "an uncompromising concoction of subtle and intimate jazz with a touch of hipster singer-songwriter" (West Michigan Jazz Society).  Beauty Indestructible will be released to the public on January 20th, but is available for presale only at live shows.  The official CD Release Concert will be held at Rockwood Music Hall in New York City.

Ashley Daneman - Piano & Voice
Currently touring the U.S., Ashley Daneman is bringing her new album, "Beauty Indestructible," to Chicago, New York, Minneapolis, Houston, and Washington, D.C. to name a few.  Noted as "a fine young jazz vocalist" (USA Today), Ashley's songwriting has also been recognized through grants awarded and artist residencies such as The Banff Centre's Jazz and Creative Workshop and Betty Carter's Jazz Ahead. Ashley honed her chops on the Washington, D.C. jazz scene before completing her masters degree in Jazz Vocal Performance at Manhattan School of Music. However, her desire for a more personal means of musical expression won out, and All About Jazz says "Ashley owns a decidedly individualistic style and a willingness to take interpretive risks, the true hallmark of the dedicated jazz musician." Ashley and her husband, trumpeter Benje Daneman, are based in New York City. (http://ashleydaneman.com/)

Benje Daneman - Trumpet & Flugelhorn
New York City based trumpeter, Benje Daneman, a sought after musician for his personal approach, strong musicality and versatility, Benje has toured with Doc Severinsen, performed with the world renowned Jose Limon Dance Ensemble, and recorded for the Grammy nominated album "Elevation" (HMI Big Band). He has recently headlined with his groups at some of the best jazz clubs and festivals in the nation, including Dakota Jazz Club (Minneapolis, MN), Cezanne (Houston, TX) and FONT Festival (New York, NY).  Additionally, Benje works regularly as a sideman in multiple unique settings in New York City and all across the country. Benje's unique and personal voice can be heard through his compositions and arrangements.  He has been named as an artist in residence in 2015 for Spark and Echo Arts.  Additionally, he has been commissioned to compose and arrange for the United States Air Force Band (in Europe), Dr. Steve Zegree, Spark and Echo Arts, Centerpoint Church and Lutheran Music Missions.  His 2013 EP release Estelle's Farewell Gift features all original compositions featuring Jeremy Siskind, Ashley Daneman and Andrew Rathbun has been described as "Simple songs that open doors to complex reactions" (David Sumner, Bird Is The Worm).  Mentoring the next generation of musicians is another one of Benje's passions.  A Teaching Artist for the NY Pops, he has led clinics and workshops throughout the country at such institutions as McNally Smith College, Western Michigan University, Concordia University and for the Michigan State Band and Orchestra Association.  He is also the co-director of the Kalamazoo Jazz & Creative Institute, which has a mission to cultivate musicianship, artistic vision and creative entrepreneurship to all levels of creative musicians. Benje has attended and holds degrees from Western Michigan University, The Henry Mancini Institute (Los Angeles, CA), and Manhattan School of Music (New York, NY).  Benje lives in New York City with his wife, jazz singer-songwriter, Ashley Daneman and daughters, Rivi and Elise.
