****DECEMBER TOURS CANCELED DUE TO RAINY WEATHER & MUDDY CONDITIONS ON THE FARM**** <BR>(Stay tuned for more dates in the new year)<BR><BR><BR>ABOUT THE TOUR:<BR>First we will take you on a tour of the dairy barns, where the sheep and cows are milked. There will be adorable baby Jersey calves to visit, too! Then we'll take a peek through the windows of the creamery facilities so you can see where the milk is turned into fabulous cheese, and see where those cheeses are ripened to maturity before they get sent out to the world. During your visit you will take in majestic pasture and hill views while hearing stories about the farm's rich dairy past, and the unique partnership between the Thornton family who own the farm, and Bleating Heart proprietors Seana Doughty & Dave Dalton. Don't be surprised if some of the many farm animals who live here stop by to say hello! To conclude your visit, the cheesemakers of Bleating Heart will guide us through a tasting so you can sample their unique award-winning cheeses, rounding out your from-the-farm experience! Cheese will be available for sale, as well as eggs from Marissa's free range chickens. <BR><BR>*Tour happens rain or shine! No refunds, no exchanges.<BR><BR>*You are coming to a FARM so please dress appropriately! <BR><BR>*No smoking allowed. No pets allowed (expect service animals). <BR><BR>*Children are welcome but they do require a full price ticket, and they must be accompanied and supervised by an adult at all times.<BR><BR><BR>ABOUT THE VENUE:<BR>The Marshall brothers left Ireland and settled land in West Marin in 1852, establishing a dairy on their "Home Ranch" property. The dairy shut down in 2001 when the 4th generation patriarch, Gordon Thornton, passed away. In 2014 his granddaughter, 6th generation farmer Marissa Thornton, revitalized her family's old dairy on the bucolic 1,013 acre ranch. The dairy is now known as "Marshall Home Ranch & Dairy" and is the only dairy in California - maybe in the nation - that milks both sheep and jersey cows in the same facility. All of the milk is sold exclusively to the cheesemakers at Bleating Heart Cheese, who are right in the same building as the dairy, so the milk doesn't have to travel very far! Bleating Heart's microcreamery is located in a renovated portion of the dairy building which used to be the old milk house. This is where they now make around 15,000 wheels a year of their award winning "American Original" cheeses.
