An Evening with Robert Lustig: "Healthy, Wealthy, and Wise?
Two thirds of Americans are now overweight or obese, and 40% of the normal-weight population has the same diseases as the obese. Dr. Lustig will explore the damage to our health caused by the Western Diet, and will give us tips to improve the way we eat.
Robert Lustig is the author of the bestselling book "Fat Chance: Beating the odds against sugar, processed food, obesity, and disease", and his YouTube talk "Sugar: The Bitter Truth" has been viewed more than 5 million times. He has written over 100 research articles and 60 book chapters and reviews. Robert Lustig is a former chairman of the Obesity Task Force of the Pediatric Endocrine Society. He is the President of the Institute for Responsible Nutrition, and an advisor to Action on Sugar, a UK policy group. He is featured in the recent documentary "Fed Up", narrated by Katie Couric, a film that reveals how the state of our food environment has fueled the obesity epidemic. Robert Lustig has spoken to numerous audiences around the world, bringing his message to help people understand the drivers of obesity and metabolic disease so that they can take action in their own lives and communities. His global goal is to advise governments on how to help solve the obesity and diabetes pandemics that are bankrupting healthcare systems worldwide.
