In a village in Ethiopia a bright 14-year-old girl, Hirut, is on her way home from school when men on horses kidnap her. In her village the practice of abduction into marriage is common and one of Ethiopia's oldest traditions. The brave teenager grabs a rifle and tries to escape but ends up shooting her would-be husband. She finds herself on trial for her life.
Meaza Ashenafi, a tenacious young lawyer from the city defends her and seeks to outlaw the practice of abduction into marriage. This landmark case will change the lives of Ethiopian women and girls forever.
Q&A following the screening with Director Zeresenay Berhane Mehari, actors Meron Getnet and Tizita Hagere and real-life subjects Meaza Ashenafi and Aberash Bekeli.
