"Wave of Inspiration: Stories in Sound"
"Wave of Inspiration:  Stories in Sound" features dancer/mime Karen Montanaro, Rock/Classical/Indie instrumental group Ginger Ibex, and guitar/cello duo Flightless Buttress.

Karen and audience members will explore the rich imagery and inspiration that live instrumental music provides to the joy, expression and healing nature of improvised dance.  Karen will do solo improvised mime/dances to the bands' pieces, followed by an invitation to the audience to listen to a few phrases of music and suggest a word, phrase or story that the music evokes, which Karen will express through her dance improvisation as the music continues.  Finally, the audience members themselves will be invited to participate in expressing the evoked words, phrases and stories through improvised dance, should they wish to participate.

Karen Montanaro is a world-renowned dancer and mime artist, an award-winning choreographer, and the innovator of "mimedance" (the fusion of two classical art forms). Karen studied ballet at the Cantarella School of Dance, the Ram Island Dance Center and on scholarship with the Joffrey Ballet School. Karen danced professionally with the Ohio Ballet and the Darmstadt Opera Ballet in Germany. For more than a decade, Karen toured and taught internationally with mime master, Tony Montanaro. She was recently awarded the 2008 Individual Artist Fellowship grant from the Maine Arts Commission.

Cambridge instrumental Rock/Classical crossover band Ginger Ibex performs the original piano and strings compositions of pianist Sharon Crumrine with Betty Widerski on 6-string viola, Michael Steigman on drums, and supporting string players. Ginger Ibex released their debut album "Firefly" in October 2009, of which reviewers have said

"Ginger Ibex mixes and melds musical styles in a fashion that is both surprising and wildly successful. This is true modern classical music, incorporating elements from Middle Eastern music, Rock N Roll, Tango and Impressionist musical styles."

"Though it is completely instrumental the work here seems to evoke images and memories in the way that classical fans like to call "lyrical". I can close my eyes and see stories when I listen to these songs."

Boston instrumental duo Flightless Buttress are guitarist John Nolan and cellist Callie Peters, melding classical music with classic rock. One reviewer has called them "Amanda Palmer meets the Cello Chix".

Purchasers of tickets in advance may present their ticket stub at the Ginger Ibex merchandise table the night of the show for $5 off their CD "Firefly" (usually $10).

Admission at the door, if available, will be $10. Doors open at 7pm
