Uncle Ces of the Zulu Nation presents a night of film, discussion and music focused on the great Shaka, King of the Zulu. Part of the "DVD Vendor Showcase" series at the Maysles Cinema
Film: "Zulu Wars: Shaka, King of the Zulu"(Dir. Richard Charles Wawman, 1996, 54 min.) explores the life of Shaka Zulu through dramatic re-enactments of his life - his upringing, building of the Zulu empire, first contact with Europe and the events that led to his demise. Shaka Zulu was considered both a military genius for his innovations in warfare and revolutionary warfare style and condemned for his brutality. At the time of his death he ruled over 250,000 people and 50,000 warriors.
Film followed by a discussion with a panel of noted experts, hosted by Dr. Shaka Zulu. Then, a Zulu Nation After Party with DJ Ces.
About "DVD Vendor Showcase" series: one night during the first week of every month, vendors from 125th Street screen their films & lead forums on the history and culture of their business to promote their continued existence in a climate of gentrification, police harassment and economic downturn. Curated with Shaka Shakur, New Black Panther Party.
