Two Paths to Freedom: A Musical Tribute to Madela and Seeger
We lost Nelson Mandela, champion of the anti-apartheid movement, and Pete Seeger, champion of folk song and social change, less than a year ago. The Teaneck Community Chorus honors these two fighters for freedom in concert. While many of us nostalgically remember singing folk songs, we are also reminded that music can inspire, mobilize, and activate the courage to take and maintain stands. This speaks to the power of song whether marching for Civil Rights, cleaning up the Hudson River, or taking the Long Walk to Freedom to combat apartheid. And while these two men lived continents away, their paths did cross musically as Pete Seeger compiled and published a collection of South African freedom songs. How Can I Keep From Singing? In Nelson Mandela and Pete Seeger's case, we can't help but sing.
Please join us for a selection of familiar and beloved folk songs, as well as inspiring and harmonically stirring South African music.
