Menopause the Musical

Since March 2001, the hilarious show Menopause The Musical has been entertaining and inspiring women from coast-to-coast and internationally. The work of writer/producer Jeanie Linders, Menopause The Musical is a 90-minute production which includes 25 re-lyricized tunes from the 60s and 70s and culminates with a salute to women who are experiencing The Change.
Set in Bloomingdale's department store, where four women with seemingly nothing in common but a black lace bra meet by chance, the musical pokes fun at things such as hot flashes, memory loss, mood swings, wrinkles, night sweats and eating binges.
The show's intended message is that menopause is a passage, but it should no longer be The Silent Passage. It is a stage in every woman's life that is perfectly normal.
Inspired by a hot flash and a bottle of wine, writer/producer Jeanie Linders created the show as a celebration of women who are on the brink of, in the middle of, or have survived The Change. Since its first performance, the show has evolved as a "grassroots" movement of women who deal with life after 40 and all the challenges that result in the mental, physical and spiritual freedom of the post-WWII baby boomer generation.
"Most women know intuitively that every other woman is experiencing hot flashes or night sweats. There is always a close friend or two who can sympathize or identify with her," says Linders. "But when they are sitting in a theatre full of other women, all laughing and shouting 'That's me! That's me on stage!' they know what they are experiencing is normal. They aren't alone or crazy. It becomes a sisterhood."

The opening performance, Wednesday, January 24th, is being dedicated as a fundraiser for the Collingwood Arts Center by the producer of the show! There will be a cast meet and greet reception after this show. Coffee and cakes will be served. Come early for every show, wander the galleries and meet the resident artists of the Collingwood Arts Center. Their studios will be open for your enjoyment.
