City Fruit - The Art of Espalier
Center for Urban Horticulture, UW Botanic Gardens Seattle, WA
This class teaches the steps involved in creating an espalier -- that is, a fruit tree trained to a two-dimensional form that is both beautiful and space-conserving. The instructor, Dave Connors, former president of the Seattle Tree Fruit Society, has been teaching the "Art of Espalier" for a half dozen years and has been training eighteen antique apple varieties in his own yard for more than a decade.
Note: Most of this class will be taught indoors, but please bring a rain jacket in the event that we're able to include an outdoor portion of the class.
