Little Brother presents What We Talk About: A Lecture Series
Let's talk! What We Talk About, the quarterly lecture series, returns this fall now presented by Little Brother, the literary magazine that the Globe and Mail calls "several kinds of new."
The theme for this edition of What We Talk About is "witchy women."
Speakers include:
Kiva Reardon, founding editor of cléo: a journal of film and feminism, speaking on the commercialization of witch hunt history.
Derek McCormack, novelist and author of The Haunted Hillbilly and The Show That Smells, speaking on the mysterious Vera West, costume designer during Hollywood's Golden Age.
Elio Iannacci, Culture Editor of FASHION magazine, speaking on the enduring appeal of Elvira, Mistress of the Dark.
For each edition of What We Talk About, curator Peter Merriman chooses three figures from different disciplines who will deliver brief lectures on a given topic. Following the talks, the speakers will engage in a group discussion, mix and match ideas, and invite audience questions and conversation. Like the magazine, WWTA brings together bright people, playful ideas, and intellectual rigour, topped with a healthy dose of wit and irreverence. It's about celebrating curiosity, building community, and, most of all, having fun.
What We Talk About was originally founded by Peter Merriman and Alicia Louise Merchant in 2012, and is now part of Little Brother Projects. Little Brother is a Toronto-based, internationally-recognized print magazine that features the best of a new generation of Canadian writers and artists. In its short history, it has won a Gold National Magazine Award, been selected for the Coupe Design Annual, and been featured in The Toronto Star, Monocle, and Dazed and Confused.
