Jahdan Blakkamoore has long made a name for himself as a gifted and inspiring reggae/dance hall/hip hop/dub-step artist, both nationally and internationally. Originally from Guyana, he moved to Brooklyn at a young age, soaking up all the music the city had to offer. His music has been described as Urban World Music with a message. Jahdan's sense of melody, superb song writing skills and ability to effortlessly cross over genres has solidified his status as reggae royalty. His group Noble Society, won Best Reggae Album for Take Charge in 2008. On his recently released solo debut album, Buzzrock Warrior (Gold Dust/!K7 Records), Jahdan's intensity on the mic brings a large palate of sounds, including dance hall, dub-step, cumbia, rap and R&B cohesively together with thought-provoking lyrics that demand ones attention. The General, the first single from the album, made Song of the Week on National Geographic. Besides the Dutty Artz crew (Matt Shadetedk, Dj/rupture, Jahdan, and Geko Jones), the album also features contributions from Modeselektor, Jammer, chanda via Circuito (Zizek), Maga Bo and 77Klash.
Now entering its 14th year, DUB MISSION is one of the longest-running dub & reggae parties in the U.S., possibly the world. A weekly Sunday night party at Elbo Room (647 Valencia Street x 17th) in San Francisco, Dub Mission presents cutting-edge dub, roots reggae, dance hall and dub-step, and has featured artists from all over the world.
