Ensemble Workshop with Alasdair Fraser & Natalie Haas * Susquehanna Folk (SFMS)
Calvary United Methodist Church Lemoyne, PA
One of the most respected exponents of the Scots fiddle, Alasdair Fraser joins young Juilliard graduate Natalie Haas, returning the cello to its historical role at the rhythmic heart of Scottish dance music.
In this workshop, Alasdair and Natalie explore playing traditional music in a group, focusing on arrangement ideas as well as the techniques that give traditional music its particular flavor. They look at the elements of language, rhythm and dance, and how to put fiddle tunes together to form a medley or a larger piece of music.
While teaching will be geared towards intermediate to advanced string players (violin, viola, cello, bass), enthusiasts of all levels on all instruments are welcome and encouraged to participate at their level.
