Black Pearl Productions (BPP) launches Black Pearl Poetry Slam September 10 in MADCAP Theaters to include open mics, slam competitions and special performances, including Arizona's first official college poetry slam that will lead to participation in a national competition. The BPP slam will provide an open mic for all poets to share their creative work and a poetry slam for those who want to compete in a regulated format. Also, the show will host special guests, such as poets from HBO Def Poetry Jam, Cave Canem Fellows and national and international slam champions. Ed Mabrey Jr., BPP founder and Chief Executive Officer, looks forward to hosting and delivering a fun, challenging and inclusive atmosphere for all audiences.

The Phoenix slam team, one of the top 10 teams in the U.S.
An open mic for poets
A women's-only slam to earn points toward qualifying to be the BPP representative for the 2010 Women of the World Poetry Slam (wow.poetryslam.com)
Special guest feature Alvin Lau, a HBO Def Poet
