Rhinoceros
Arlington Center for the Arts Arlington, MA
Arlington Children's Theatre presents Eugene Ionesco's "Rhinoceros," featuring a talented cast of 15 ACTors aged 12-18 from five local towns.
If everyone around you started turning into a rhinoceros, would you do it too? Thatâs the dilemma that confronts the inhabitants of a small town in this absurdist drama about the pressures to conform. Originally published in 1957, Rhinoceros blends humor and philosophy to examine the dangers of extremism and the fate of the lone everyman who stands up to the powerful influence of the group. Berenger, the playâs hero, faces a difficult choice: undergo a terrifying metamorphosis or defy his friends and hold onto his humanity. As relevant today as when it was first performed, Rhinoceros will make you laugh while exploring difficult questions about freedom, power, and individual responsibility.
