Hu Dost and Amanda West
Join us for an evening of world rhythms, thought-provoking lyrics, soothing melodies, and mystical ambiance as touring duo HuDost, and local artist Amanda West, team up for a special winter concert at the Cayuga Vault.
Spearheaded by singer/songwriters Moksha Sommer from Montreal and Jemal Wades Hines from New York, HuDost ranges in musical style from 'Alternative World' to their own 'Country and Eastern' fusion. Blending traditional Sufi, Bulgarian, Croatian, Macedonian and Balkan folk, alongside Pop and Rock, singing in Farsi, Turkish, Arabic and English, HuDostâs sound crosses borders and barriers, taking listeners on a mesmerizing sonic journey.
HuDost has toured throughout the US, Canada and Europe, including shows in Turkey, and have performed extensively on the East Coast doing shows at Alex Greyâs CoSM in NYC, the Salvador Dali Museum, the Shakori Grassroots Festival, Omega Institute, Rumi Festival, The Annenberg Center for the Performing Arts and many others. HuDost has also opened for the California Guitar Trio and Jefferson Starship, and have worked with Omar Faruk Tekbilek, Neko Case, and Mercan Dede.
Local Santa Cruz Philosophical Folk Songstress, Amanda West, will also be performing alongside Pete Solomon who has begun to accompany West's original songs on world percussion & classically influenced jazz saxophone. The duo took this arrangement on the road for Westâs two and half week âYakima Nâ Backâ Summer Tour 2009.  Amanda has been songwriting and performing for well over a decade, and singing since she was born. Her voice has been described as âgorgeous, selfless and emotive.â John Sandige of KPIG radio remarked that Amanda writes âsongs to think about,â as she follows her musical exploration of the question: what does it mean to be human?
