Bemidji Symphony Orchestra presents "Flute, Fantasy and Fun"
Internationally acclaimed flutist Carol Wincenc is welcomed back to the BSO stage, this time to perform the world premiere of "Breathless," a work commissioned for her by the BSO from composer Tod Machover. Also on the program is Beethoven's "Egmont Overture" and "The Nutcracker Suite" by Tchaikovsky.
Carol Wincenc, one of the world's leading flute virtuosos, teaches at the Juilliard School of Music. She has premiered numerous works written for her by prominent composers, including a world premiere with the Detroit Symphony of a flute concerto by Pulitzer Prize winner Christopher Rouse. Wincenc has received numerous awards in her career, including a Grammy nomination and the Diapason d'Or prize. Wincenc resides in New York City.
Tod Machover is quickly rising to the top of "who's who" on the international composition scene. Called "America's most wired composer" by The Los Angeles Times, Machover innovated music technology for Yo Yo Ma, Prince, and others. He also created the technology behind the popular video games Guitar Hero and Rock Band. He studied at The Juilliard School and is Professor of Music and Media at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology Media Lab. He lives near Boston, MA.
This concert is supported by a grant from the George W. Neilson Foundation. This activity is made possible by the voters of Minnesota through a grant from the Region 2 Arts Council, thanks to a legislative appropriation from the Arts and Cultural Heritage Fund.
