New Century Saxophone Quartet -" The Art of the Fugue"
Thomas Great Hall Bryn Mawr, PA
When the cellist of the Julliard String Quartet encouraged the New Century Saxophone Quartet to play J.S. Bach's "The Arts of the Fugue," imagining it would be a perfect fit with the group's sound, he was right! NCSQ performs in stately Thomas Great Hall on Friday, Dec. 4 at 8 p.m. Selections from The Art of the Fugue will be followed by contemporary counterparts, including commissions by Pulitzer Prize-winning composer David Lang and Saturday Night Live band musical director Lenny Pickett.
The only ensemble of its kind to ever win First Prize of the Concert Artists Guild Competition, the New Century Saxophone Quartet is a pioneering and versatile group. Winning new-found enthusiasm for the saxophone quartet and its diverse repertory, the ensembles program ranges from the Baroque to innovative contemporary works to imaginative transcriptions.
