In the Spirit of the Season
Thornton Wilder's The Long Christmas Dinner" Another all-time classic from the writer of Our Town, this play traverses ninety years and represents in accelerated motion ninety Christmas dinners in the Bayard home. The development of the countryside, the changes in customs and manners during this period of time as well as the growth of the Bayard family and their accumulation of property sums up vividly a wide aspect of American life.
"The Implausible Claus" The Ho Ho Hotline has been installed in a retirement home so that children can talk to Santa or Mrs. Claus. Meanwhile, Jensie, with her home computer, has broken into the phone company's data banks to find the address of the Ho Ho Hotline. She comes in search of Santa Claus. What she finds is Aaron Lefkowitz. "According to the phone company this is the North Pole and you're Santa Claus," insists Jensie. "All right, you win. I'm Santa Lefkowitz," snaps back the old man. "I don't believe you. Santa's not Jewish." Lefkowitz retorts, "Who else would work on Christmas?" In the short time this unusual twosome spends together, an old man's lost imagination is rekindled and a unique humor bridges an 80-year gap. Laugh and cry and live with a very special pair who find each other at the most special season of the year.
A captivating little jewel of a play." (Alexandria Virginia Times)

"The Gift of the Magi" This is a touching and beautiful story based on the classic story from O'Henry of a young couple unable to afford presents for each other on their first Christmas together. Each sacrifices a treasure to provide a gift for the other but, in so doing, they work at almost tragically funny cross-purposes. This is a play about young love and the value of giving.
