WHAT: 5-hour Pesticide Recertification Training Seminar.

WHEN: 8:30 am to 3:30 pm on THURSDAY - NOVEMBER 5th

WHERE:  Walla Walla Community College - Water and Environment Center.

FEE:  $20 to defray costs of noon meal, facility rental and refreshments.

Introductory Pest Management Seminar Agenda

8:30 am  9:00 am  On-site registration and Introductions
Wayne Thompson, Regional Extension Agronomist, WSU

9:00 am - 10:55 am Pesticide Labeling and PPE.
Carol Black - Extension Specialist, WSU. 125 minutes, 2 credits (core)
  1. Risk assessment process for deciding what PPE is listed on the label,
  2. Variability of PPE label language, and
  3. Mandatory vs Advisory Pesticide Label Language.

11:10 am - 12:05 am  Drift Minimization and Off-Target Movement of Pesticides.
Wayne Thompson - Regional Extension Specialist, WSU. 55 minutes, 1 credit (core)
  1. Forms of off-target migration of pesticides,
  2. Examples that address environmental conditions that favor drift,
  3. Equipment settings that promote spray drift,
  4. Management practices that can be implemented to mitigate off-target migration as drift and surface run-off, and
  5. USGS pesticide survey data on pesticide accumulation in surface waters, runoff silt, and ground water will be presented.

13:00  13:55.  Pollinator Update.
Carol Black - Extension Specialist, WSU. 55 minutes, 1 credit (regular)
  1. Role of pollinators in agricultural production,
  2. Stressors that impact pollinators,
  3. US EPA pollinator risk assessment and labeling language, and
  4. compliance issues with bee kills.

14:05  15:00  Pesticide Handler and Worker Protection Standards - US EPA Rules for Pesticide Licensees.
Wayne Thompson - Regional Extension Specialist, WSU. 55 minutes, 1 credit (core)
  1. Overview of US EPA Rules regarding worker protection standards and pesticide handler trailing,
  2. An abbreviated session as an example of how to implement proper training opportunities for workers and handlers, and
  3. Review and distribute books and other training aides for use when delivering training sessions for workers and pesticide handlers.

15:05 pm - 15:30 pm  Closing remarks and WSU Extension Survey.
